Here’s a short documentary for all those who are really, really into coffee: Thrash Lab’s Subculture Club goes inside the world of specialty coffee roasting to learn how three different coffee companies make the magic happen. From LAMILL Coffee‘s roasting plant to Blue Bottle Coffee Co.‘s headquarters and downtown LA’s Handsome Coffee, these coffee nerds discuss how drinking coffee is a ritual and a shared cultural experience — and that “the things that happen in a coffee house are like really magical things.”
The film shows the cupping process over at Blue Bottle, as well as the siphon coffee pot used to “extract the deliciousness out of the coffee.” Meanwhile, LAMILL’s Thomas Hodges talks about how they have a burden to make the coffee shine and the mustachioed co-owner of Handsome Coffee explains that his coffee shop strives to be a throwback to the days of the general store, making coffee just for you. Above all, they all share a relentless pursuit of a great cup of coffee. Go watch.
